Government Shutdown: Democrats Choose Illegals Over Americans
WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Senate Democrats rejected the clean government funding extension passed by the House of Representatives, triggering a full shutdown of the federal government.
U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN02) voted with nearly every other Republican in the House to keep the government open. Senate Democrats blocked funding for veterans’ healthcare, food assistance programs and community health centers all in favor of their nearly $1.5 trillion wish list, which includes taxpayer-funded government benefits for illegal immigrants.
“I voted YES on the 7-week government funding extension, but Senate Democrats are now holding the government hostage to keep President Trump from implementing his agenda,” said Rep. Burchett. “I am refusing to take a single paycheck until the government is fully operational for all Americans.”
All three of Congressman Burchett’s offices will remain open throughout the government shutdown to continue serving the constituents of Tennessee’s 2nd Congressional District.
