Rep. Burchett's Visit to Second Harvest Food Bank

Wednesday, November 5, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  With the ongoing government shutdown, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) visited Second Harvest, where he met with CEO Elaine Streno and her team. Congressman Burchett toured their warehouse, where volunteers have already packed 1.3 million meals this year. They discussed how the organization relies on community support, with food and funding provided by local donors, corporate sponsors, and food partners.

If you or someone you know needs assistance, Second Harvest can be a lifeline for families, children, and seniors who don’t qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or who have temporarily lost access to those benefits during the government shutdown. For more information about available programs, please visit feedtn.org.

“Second Harvest is one of many food banks serving East Tennessee, providing hungry families with nearly 23 million meals last year,” said Rep. Tim Burchett. “They work with 789 partner agencies to deliver food to our neighbors across the region. I’m proud to see Tennesseans living up to the standard of the Volunteer State.”

“I’ve visited food banks across my district to see firsthand the harm Democrats have caused in East Tennessee. This is exactly why I voted yes to pass a clean government funding package, which would have fully funded SNAP and paid our federal workers, and I call on my Democrat colleagues in the Senate to end the government shutdown.”
