Congressman Burchett’s statement on U.S. withdrawal from World Health Organization
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (July 8, 2020) – Following the announcement that the United States will officially withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) released the following statement:
"The WHO was careless in its response to COVID-19, covering up the Chinese Communist Party’s misinformation campaign for several weeks. Instead of preparing the world to fight the virus, they ignored warnings from Taiwanese officials. Economies and livelihoods around the world are still suffering because of the WHO’s mistakes and soft attitude towards the Chinese Communist Party. There needs to be serious reforms at the WHO and they need to be held accountable. Until we see positive reforms, American taxpayer dollars should not be used to support an organization more concerned with appeasing China’s political ruling class than protecting global health."
