Rep. Burchett votes against wasteful spending, wants secure borders

January 4, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 4, 2019) -- U.S. Representative Tim Burchett cast his first votes in the House of Representatives yesterday, including voting against sending American taxpayer dollars to fund abortions in foreign countries and against supporting the United Nations Population Fund, which is involved in China's coercive population-control policies. He also voted against the Democrats' Homeland Security funding bill because it fails to strengthen our nation's border security.

"The people of East Tennessee want secure borders, and they do not want their hard-earned tax dollars going to fund abortions or inhumane practices in other countries," said Rep. Tim Burchett. "This funding fight is about more than any one department. It's about remembering that every dollar of taxpayer money we spend in DC was taken from hardworking people trying to earn a living for their families and balance their own budgets."
