COVID-19 Travel Related Issues
My office has heard from East Tennesseans having issues returning to the United States due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There are resources available through the Department of State to help Americans abroad get back home.
Constituents abroad should sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Plan (STEP). Registering for this free program helps the State Department know where you are and that you need assistance returning to the country. You or someone you know who needs assistance can sign up for STEP by clicking here. Additionally, you call 1-888-407-4747 (from the US & Canada) or +1-202-501-4444 (from overseas) for American Citizens Services & Emergencies information if you are having trouble returning to the United States.
I also encourage constituents to stay up to date with the State Department’s travel advisories in response to COVID-19. It is not recommended Americans travel abroad during this time. You can click here to visit the State Department’s COVID-19 travel advisory page.
Please do not hesitate to call my Knoxville office at 865-523-3772 to request to speak with a professional who can assist with travel-related issues. While my offices are currently teleworking, staff is frequently checking the voice mailbox and a caseworker will be in touch to assist you.
