U.S. Representative Tim Burchett is an East Tennessee native who grew up in Knoxville. He lives in the Gibbs Community of Knox County with his wife, Kelly, and their daughter, Isabel.

Rep. Burchett took office in January 2019, after serving eight years as mayor of Knox County. Thanks to natural growth and good stewardship of taxpayer dollars, his administration was able to build new schools, launch infrastructure projects, and pay down debt—all without raising taxes. Prior to his tenure as Knox County Mayor, he started a successful small business before serving 16 years in the state legislature, four years in the State House followed by 12 years in the State Senate.

Rep. Burchett currently serves on the House Committees on Oversight and Government Reform; Foreign Affairs; and Transportation and Infrastructure.

  • On the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Burchett continues to prioritize the modernization of our infrastructure in Tennessee and across the United States; while making sure these projects are cost effective for the taxpayer.
  • Rep. Burchett serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. In alignment with the Trump Administration’s goals, Congressman Burchett is working to ensure an efficient and effective federal government built on accountability and transparency.
  • On the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Burchett is working to ensure the safety and security of Americans at home and abroad from the looming threated posed by our foreign adversaries.

During the 117th Congress, Rep. Burchett sponsored 23 bills and cosponsored 201 pieces of legislation in the House of Representatives, three of which were signed into law by President Biden:

  • Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers (PAWS) for Veterans Therapy Act - Requires the VA implement a five-year pilot program to provide canine training to eligible veterans diagnosed with PTSD.
  • Patient Advocate Tracker Act - Established an information technology system that allows veterans to electronically file a complaint and review the status of a filed complaint.
  • Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies for ALS Act - Establishes grant programs to address neurodegenerative diseases.

During the 118th Congress, Rep. Burchett sponsored 32 bills and cosponsored another 218 bills, 6 of which were signed into law by President Biden:

  • Preventing Child Sex Abuse Act of 2023 – Amended federal law prohibiting child sexual tourism by clarifying that crossing state or international boundaries with the “intent to engage” in illicit sexual conduct constitutes a sex tourism offence.
  • To amend the Controlled Substances Act to fix a technical error in the definitions-- This legislation makes technical corrections in the definitions section of the Controlled Substances Act.
  • Relating to a national emergency declared by the President on March 13, 2020. - This joint resolution terminates the national emergency concerning COVID-19 declared by the President on March 13, 2020.
  • 250th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps Commemorative Coin Act - This legislation directs the Department of the Treasury to mint and issue 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins, and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins emblematic of the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps.
  • Dr. Emmanuel Bilirakis and Honorable Jennifer Wexton National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act - This legislation requires the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to carry out a project to address Parkinson's disease (a progressive brain disorder that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements) and other related conditions.
  • National Guard and Reservists Debt Relief Extension Act of 2023 - This legislation extends for an additional four years the exemption from the presumption of abuse means test under Chapter 7 (liquidation) bankruptcy for qualifying members of an Armed Forces reserve component or the National Guard. 

In the 119th Congress, Representative Burchett has so far sponsored 31 bills and cosponsored 97 pieces of legislation, three of which passed the House of Representatives, and one of which has been signed into law:

  • Home Buyers Protection Act - This bill limits the circumstances in which credit reporting agencies may provide consumer credit reports to third parties in connection with residential mortgage transactions. (Signed into Law)
  • No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act - The bill requires the State Department to create and carry out a strategy aimed at deterring foreign nations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from offering financial or material aid to the Taliban or other terrorist groups.
  • Tennessee Valley Authority Transparency Act of 2025 - The TVA Transparency Act requires all meetings to be held in public, and mandates they give the public seven
