Art Competition
Congressional Art Competition: Change Heading
Each spring, the Congressional Art Competition is held nationwide for high school students around the country. Sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, this visual art competition recognizes and encourages artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district.
The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in our District. The winning entry will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside winning pieces from other Congressional Districts across the country. The winning artwork will also be featured on the official Congressional Art Competition webpage.

All entries must meet the official rules of the Congressional Art Competition, listed below:
Artwork Requirements
- Dimensions: Maximum 26" x 26" x 4" (including frame)
- Weight: No more than 15 pounds
- If selected as the winning piece, the artwork must be framed and must still meet the size and weight requirements.
Accepted Art Categories
- Paintings: oil, acrylic, watercolor
- Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, marker (Note: Charcoal and pastel entries should be fixed to prevent smudging)
- Collages: must be two-dimensional
- Print: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
- Mixed Media: using more than two mediums (e.g., pencil, ink, watercolor)
- Computer: Generated Art
- Photography
Originality Requirement
All submissions must be original in concept, design, and execution. Entries that violate U.S. copyright law, such as those copied from photos, advertisements, or artwork created by others, will not be accepted. Submissions must be in the original medium (no digital reproductions of hand-drawn or painted works).
Submission Information
The official rules, submission checklist, and student release form will be posted in early February on Art Competition | house.gov.
All applications must be submitted by email no later than Saturday, May 1st.
