Burchett: Biden administration must reaffirm commitment to Middle East peace
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 21, 2021) – Shortly after President Joe Biden assumed office yesterday, staff in the office of the U.S. Ambassador to Israel changed the embassy’s name on Twitter to “U.S. Ambassador to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.” Although the account name has since been changed back to “U.S. Ambassador to Israel”, U.S. Representative and member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Tim Burchett (TN-02) is questioning the Biden administration’s commitment to the United States’ role in keeping a peaceful Middle East.
“This was an irresponsible decision by a State Department staffer,” Rep. Burchett said. “The account name was quickly fixed, but this incident is troubling for the future of U.S. relations in the Middle East. Today, in light of this incident, I am calling on President Biden to issue a statement proving his strong commitment to Middle East peace.”
