Congressman Burchett statement on vote against bill to override contract negotiations between workers and rail companies

November 30, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C., (Nov. 30, 2022) – Today, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) released the following statement on his vote against legislation to impose a labor agreement between rail companies and their workers:

“I voted against the bill to override contract negotiations between unions and rail companies because it sets a bad precedent. They are supposed to come to an agreement on their own, and this bill will take away workers’ leverage to negotiate. Congress should just stay out of it.”

This legislation would require unions and rail companies to adopt a labor deal that was previously rejected by rail workers if they cannot come to an agreement by Dec. 9, 2022.
