Rep. Burchett calls on DHS secretary to resign after ICE plan to send illegal immigrants to Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., (Dec. 20, 2022) – Today, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) released the following statement after Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement's plan to send single adult illegal immigrants to Tennessee to await court proceedings.

"President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas are betraying Tennesseans. This is worse than criminal negligence, this is intentional action that puts my constituents' safety at risk.

Months ago, I called on Secretary Mayorkas to resign for his failed handling of the border crisis, and I'm repeating that call today. Tennesseans deserve leaders who put their safety above a dangerous political agenda."
