Rep. Burchett: Congress is not responsible for invoking the 25th Amendment

January 12, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 12, 2021) – Tonight, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) voted against a non-binding resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Donald Trump from office. Rep. Burchett released the following statement:

"Congress does not have the constitutional authority to invoke the 25th Amendment, and Vice President Pence said he will not do so. There was also no chance for tonight's effort to have any legal impacts. Removing President Trump with a week left in his term only fans the flames of political divisions and the focus right now needs to be on moving forward to solve the issues facing our nation."
