WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 5, 2019) - Congressman Tim Burchett (R-TN) released the following statement after President Trump's second State of the Union Address:

"My first State of the Union was a humbling experience. It’s truly a privilege to represent Tennessee’s Second District in the United States House of Representatives. And I was honored to have D.J. and Wendy Corcoran in attendance.

During his address, President Trump reaffirmed his determination for safe and legal immigration, and this includes addressing the crisis at our border. I agree, we must strengthen border security and find ways to demagnetize our country by removing incentives that encourage unlawful immigration.

The President also highlighted our booming economy, outstanding job growth and low unemployment rate. I was pleased to hear his plans to prioritize investment in our nation’s infrastructure and protect American workers through better trade deals. And I look forward to working with the White House to identify ways to lower the costs of healthcare and prescription drugs.

Throughout his speech, the President focused on Choosing Greatness and encouraged bipartisanship and cooperation over the coming months. Republicans are ready to work. Let’s hope Democrats are, too."
