Rep. Burchett votes against House Democrats’ federal takeover of policing

March 4, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 4, 2021) – Tonight, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) voted against H.R. 1280, the Justice in Policing Act. This legislation was written without bipartisan input.

Following the vote, Rep. Burchett criticized the legislation for the negative impact it could have on crucial law enforcement initiatives like the recent Operation Volunteer Strong, conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Department of Children's Services.

"Law enforcement in Tennessee recently recovered over 150 missing children as part of Operation Volunteer Strong. House Democrats' federal takeover of policing goes way too far and would have impeded this legitimate and important work. We should be thanking brave law enforcement officers instead of demonizing them," Rep. Burchett said.
