Burchett votes against budget resolution, calls it stunt to enact partisan agenda

February 4, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 4, 2021) – Last night, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) voted against House Democrats fiscal year 2021 budget resolution. This shell resolution lays the groundwork for President Biden and Democrats in Congress to enact massive federal spending and far-left policy priorities.

"Progressives couldn't get rid of the filibuster and weren't willing to comprise with Republicans on coronavirus relief, so now they are using a budget trick to pass their radical agenda," said Rep. Burchett. "This is a Trojan Horse, filled with empty promises about how the federal government can fix every problem, but it's the American taxpayer who will end up saddled with more debt than ever before."

This legislation fails to take into account that $1.3 trillion in federal COVID-19 economic aid remains unspent, including a $900 billion measure signed into law last December.

Congressional Democrats claim this budget resolution is the only way to effectively pass their coronavirus relief policies. However, some priorities like increasing the federal minimum wage, seemingly have little to do with the pandemic. Republicans have also criticized Democrats for wanting to send stimulus checks to affluent families who are not among those struggling to pay their bills.
